Good Things to Come

Good Things to Come

This talk was a source of inspiration for me when it was initially shared - and continues to be inspiring for me today. Enjoy!

1/27th

As of last week I am 1/27th of the way through grad school . . . maybe I should make one of those little paper chains we made in elementary school to countdown to Christmas and I could use it to countdown to graduation. Hmmm . . .

Dream BIG!

When you dream, dream big . . . when you dream it might come true (RSRB). Just listened to this song on the way in to school today and it reminded me of the fact that I am living my dreams right now and am so grateful for my loved ones that encircle me.

Back to School

So my wife suggested to me that it would be fun to keep a journal of my studies as a Student of Physical Therapy. I went down to the bookshelves and started dusting off my journals from years ago - the ones I haven't written in for at least 6 years. Um . . . yeah . . . after the sneezing and the dust settled, I decided it would be much easier to just proceed with a blog to simplify my life. Let the adventure begin.

1 month ago I started the DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) program at one of the best PT schools in the nation. 45 of us joined together as the Class of 2013 (I know, that seems so distant in the future). So far, the program has lived up to its reputation. I am very impressed with the faculty, the staff, the facilities and most importantly the curriculum. It has been rigorous and promises to prepare me to be ready to enter the field as a clinician in 3 years.

My journey really began 2 years ago when my wife asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up. As the father of 4 children, I thought I was already grown up . . . well, okay I didn't really think that, but it crossed my mind for a split second. In all honesty, as the father of 4 I knew that to successfully provide for our family I needed to further my education. The BS in Economics (and I really mean B.S. in Economics) wasn't doing much for me . . . and the plan to continue in retail lending went down the tube with the economy and the housing market. After a little introspection, I decided that my life had been positively-impacted by physical therapists and I wanted to be able to help others too.

After 2 years of doing prerequisites part-time - I'm here! Let the adventure begin.
